Successful Art Supply Drive

The 11th District Youth Council under the sponsorship of Council Rosendahl’s office ran a “Back to School” art/school supply drive

donating supplies to the Westside Children’s Center.  The 11th District Youth Council is a group of 12-18 year old students who want to make

a difference in their community, meet other outstanding youth, and learn about local government.

Under the leadership of the 11th District Youth Council President, Daniel Sobajian  (10th grade student,Venice High School);

Vice President, Alex Leherhoff (12th grade student, Windward School) and members Lisa Sobajian (7th grade student, Palms

Gifted Magnet School) and Monica Reason (11th grade student, Venice High School) all coordinated and ran the successful drive

collecting supplies for needy children.

Both The Brentwood School and Sinai Akiba Academy sponsored drives at their schools where participation was so fantastic that along

with the WCC, The Mar Vista Family Center and The Boys and Girls Club of Venice also received donations.

Thank you to Daniel, Alex, Lisa and Monica along with The Brentwood School and the Akiba Academy for your support as you provided

much needed art/school supplies to our classrooms.

Girl Scout Troop 918 Donation to WCC/TLC program!!

The Girl Scout troop 918 visited the Center and gave a wonderful donation to our children.

They created play boxes for our TLC program. The boxes were filled with items and toys
that help children develop their sensory and motor skills.

The Teaching and Learning for all Children (TLC) project is a family centered, strength-based
program in which the primary goal is
to empower families with all their special needs. TLC serves
families with children 0-5. The program came to life 3 years ago as
Westside Children’s Center was
awarded the First 5 California Special Needs Demonstration Project Grant.

TLC is a work in progress , taking every opportunity that comes its way to benefit families with
young children.
Working with Girl Scout Troop 918 was an incredible opportunity to continue to
promote interactions
between parents and children. The families that come our way often times
lack the basic resources
to engage in activities with their children, given these “play boxes”
is one less barrier and many more opportunities.

We are grateful to Troop  918 for their efforts and generosity making a difference in the lives
of the children in our TLC program.
