Each year Pepperdine’s community of students, faculty, staff and alumni comes
together for a day of service to help non-profit organizations, schools, churches and parks.
This year WCC was one of the fortunate organizations to benefit from their Step Forward Day of service.
Pepperdine sent 125 volunteers to our Center on Wagner and another 10 to our Slauson site.
All arrived prepared and ready with willing spirits and a shared motivation to aid in WCC’s
already existing policy of offering a safe, healthy and happy environment for the children.
The volunteers were divided up into project groups that ranged from classroom and
playground cleaning, to pulling weeds in our vacant lot and picnic areas, to organizing and cleaning the library
and front reception lobby and working in the garden directed by our adult volunteer Michael Goode,
where the volunteers earthed the land and prepared it for seeding to bring in a new crop for the Fall.

Overall it was an incredible day of hard work and new friendships and
we hope to continue to build a lasting relationship with the Pepperdine community.
Here at WCC volunteers play an integral part of our daily operations,
and it’s through the generosity of their time and resources our center continues to grow.
A heartfelt thank you to Pepperdine University!
