Westside Children's Center announces new Executive Director Heather Carrigan

As we head into a new year and a new decade, Westside Children’s Center is pleased to announce that Heather Carrigan has accepted the position of Executive Director effective January 4, 2010. Heather comes to us from the ACLU of Southern California where she was the Chief Operating Officer.

“After an extensive search, we believe that Ms. Carrigan is the right person with the right skills to take WCC to the next level,” commented Board President Susan Newirth. “Her vast nonprofit management experience, along with her extensive coalition and legislative advocacy experience, and personal relationship with the agency through her own experience foster/adopting her daughter will make her transition into this high profile position seamless and ensure Westside Children’s Center continued success and growth.”

Carrigan has a long history of wide-ranging public sector work, from work in a homeless shelter to public school teaching with Teach For America to policy research and advocacy for the LA Gay & Lesbian Center’s health, mental health, HIV/AIDS medical care and prevention and other services. Additionally, Carrigan brings to WCC more than a decade of legislative and initiative advocacy experience, communications strategy, budget analysis, and nonprofit management at the ACLU of Southern California.

Carrigan also brings a passion for our work. “Westside Children’s Center’s mission is second to none and I am honored to work with its talented and dedicated staff and Board to continue and build on the vital work the organization does so well,” said Carrigan.
